Henley's one year doctor visit yesterday was very reminiscent of Nori's one year appointment. Genetics are a funny thing.

Happy Memorial Day!

The birthday festivities continued all weekend as yesterday we celebrated Henley on her actual birthday with swimming, walks, and dinner out at her favorite Chipotle. Today I did something I could only have dreamed about last year one day after giving birth...I took a long bike ride. Later we celebrated Lauren's birthday with a pool party and impromptu talent show. Thoroughly enjoyed this long weekend, we need them more often!

Go Henley, it's your birthday!

Dear SoS Readers,

One year ago today I gave birth to my second baby girl. I think about the events of that day all the time and feel so blessed. I woke up at 5:52 today just to remember the moment when she was born. Henley is so curious, funny, sensitive, smart, and of course, hungry. She is a blessing and bring us so much joy! Every day she turns into more of a person and I can't wait to see who she becomes. We love you, Foosie!

Thanks to our parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nannies, and friends who came over to celebrate Hen's baptism and first birthday yesterday. We lit some candles and Pastor Luke baptized her in our living room to sound of thunder and rain outside. It was perfect. The party began with a video highlighting my favorite moments from Hen's first year, yummy lunch with enough unusual grains for family members to mock, too many presents, and a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday. Henny devoured her cake, making sure to squish it in her hand then slurp it out.

Today we are enjoying a low-key family day, swimming in the kiddie pool, and dozens more renditions of Happy Birthday complete with baby hand claps. What more is there?

What's that? Oh, you are hot? Sorry but I can hardly hear you over the hum of my THREE new air conditioners. 30,000 BTU's cooling off this old bag all summer long. First the insulation in our walls and now this, I feel like a millionaire.

Highlights of this weekend include:

projects, cleaning, and shopping

I realize that what passes for a lazy weekend these days is formerly my definition of not relaxing at all. Which is why it was such a treat to have a Mother's Day Do-Over today. My family let me sleep in until 9:00, brought me coffee in bed, and took me out to lunch. How sweet is that? When Jake told me to wear my most hipster outfit, I knew we were going to Minneapolis. Just like when he told me he was going to "surprise me", I knew it must be a meal at someplace he saw on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Drives. I had the veggie melt at the Colossal Cafe and it was yum.

I do need share a traumatic experience I had at work this week. I got roped into going to a mixer for U of M and Hennepin County employees in place of colleague who had to go to Germany. As you know, I hate small talk and I also hate people I don't know so I should have just skipped it all together. An awkward cocktail hour with Minneapolis' finest librarians only got worse when we were force to "speed network". Yes, exactly like speed dating only no one cares. U of M employees lined up on one side of the table and Hennepin county on other A gong rang and we had two minutes to "get to know each other and find ways we could work together". It was horrific. I hated it. I might quit my job if I am ever forced to do something like that again.

p.s.
I got estimate about 6 months ago to have my couches cleaned but thankfully never acted on it as since that time the following substances have been spilled: milk, chocolate, water, coffee, puke, strawberries,spit up, and as of today, berry smoothie.
